January is always a time for new beginnings, but this January will be the start of one of BOMA’s most exciting new beginnings as an organization yet. By the time you read this, BOMA International’s Board of Governors will have finalized a brand new strategic plan for our association at the 2019 Winter Business Meeting. This plan will be BOMA’s official road map for the next five years, serving as a guide to help BOMA proactively anticipate and serve the changing needs of our members.
After more than a year of dialogue, evaluation and brainstorming, spearheaded by the Strategic Planning Task Force and with active participation from BOMA International leadership, BOMA local associations and members, a strategic plan was drafted that is all about value. This value proposition is apparent throughout the plan, including in a newly crafted vision statement for our organization:
BOMA will be the partner individuals in the commercial real estate industry choose to maximize value for their careers, organization and assets.
The new strategic plan also has six key goal areas that will allow BOMA to deliver even greater value to our members and the broader commercial real estate industry we represent: Advocacy; Education; Collective Knowledge; Talent Identification and Development; Membership; and Building Value.
You will undoubtedly hear more about each of these goal areas over the next few months, and they also will serve as the foundation for developing BOMA International’s annual business plan for the next five years. But, I would like to share a few highlights: Among the priorities of the new strategic plan are a greater focus on workforce development and more emphasis on content development and delivery. BOMA has always been the commercial real estate industry’s learning laboratory, where property professionals can find the tools and resources to grow in their careers and to quickly respond to new market conditions. New technologies and delivery methods will allow BOMA to meet property professionals wherever they are, whenever they need guidance. Again, it’s all about value.
Through the collective efforts of the BOMA community, this new strategic plan will serve as a catalyst for change in a rapidly evolving commercial real estate marketplace and will position our association as a valuable resource to our members and a strategic business partner to companies for years to come. I couldn’t be more excited about BOMA’s bright future ahead.
