Seventeen Commercial Properties Win The Outstanding Building Of The Year® Awards
BOMA International Honors Excellence in Commercial Real Estate

(SALT LAKE CITY – June 26, 2019) The commercial real estate industry honored 17 commercial properties with The Outstanding Building of the Year® (TOBY®) Awards last night at the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International’s annual conference, the 2019 BOMA International Conference & Expo, in Salt Lake City.
The TOBY Awards are the commercial real estate industry's highest recognition honoring excellence in commercial building management and operations in specific categories of building size or type. To win an International TOBY Award, a property first must win both local and regional competitions. Judging is based on community impact, tenant and employee relations programs, energy management systems, accessibility, emergency evacuation procedures, building personnel training programs and overall quality indicators. A team of expert industry professionals also conducted comprehensive building inspections.
The following properties were honored with 2019 TOBY Awards:
In the Corporate Facility category, the winner is Hearst Tower in New York City. The property is managed by Tishman Speyer Properties and owned by the Hearst Corporation. Hearst Tower won the 2011 BOMA International TOBY Award in this category and is now a two-time recipient.
In the Earth category, the winner is 5 Park Plaza in Irvine, California. The property is owned and managed by Irvine Company Office Properties. 5 Park Plaza also is a BOMA 360 Performance Program building.
In the Historical Building category, the winner is Smith Tower in Seattle. The property is owned and managed by Unico Properties, LLC.
In the Industrial Office Building category, for the first time in TOBY Awards history, there are two winners: Horizon Commerce Park in Orlando, Florida, and Waterford Innovation Center in Plymouth, Minnesota. Horizon Commerce Park is owned and managed by EastGroup Properties. Waterford Innovation Center is owned and managed by Duke Realty Corporation, and it also is a BOMA 360 Performance Program building.
In the Medical Office Building category, the winner is Cochrane Community Health Centre in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada. The property is managed by Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP and owned by Grand Central Health, Inc. Cochrane Community Health Centre also is a BOMA 360 Performance building.
In the Mixed-Use category, the winner is 737 North Michigan/Olympia Centre in Chicago. The property is managed by CBRE and owned by 737 North Michigan Avenue Investors, LLC. 737 North Michigan/Olympia Centre also is a BOMA 360 Performance Program building.
In the Public Assembly Building category, the winner is Heritage Park Senior Center and Aquatics Complex in Henderson, Nevada. The property is owned and managed by the City of Henderson.
In the Renovated Building category, the winner is 280 Park Avenue in New York City. The property is managed by CBRE and owned by Broadway 280 Park Fee, LLC. 280 Park Avenue also is a BOMA 360 Performance Program building.
In the Retail category, the winner is Park Place Shopping Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. The property is managed by Primaris Management Inc., a division of H&R REIT, and owned by H&R REIT.
In the Suburban Office Park Low-Rise category, the winner is International Business Park in Plano, Texas. The buildings are owned and managed by the Billingsley Company.
In the Suburban Office Park Mid-Rise category, the winner is AeroCentre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The buildings are managed by Menkes Property Management Services, Ltd. and owned by Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) Realty Inc. AeroCentre buildings also are BOMA 360 Performance Program buildings.
In the Under 100,000 Square Feet category, the winner is Plaza at Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The property is managed by Stiles Property Management and owned by Third Avenue Associates, Ltd. Plaza at Las Olas also is a BOMA 360 Performance Program building.
In the 100,000 to 249,999 Square Feet category, the winner is Centrum at Glenridge in Atlanta. The property is managed by Stream Realty Partners – Atlanta, L.P. and owned by Origin Capital Partners. Centrum at Glenridge also is a BOMA 360 Performance Program building.
In the 250,000 to 499,999 Square Feet category, the winner is 550 West Washington in Chicago. The property is managed by JLL and owned by MetLife, Inc. 550 West Washington also is a BOMA 360 Performance Program building.
In the 500,000 to One Million Square Feet category, the winner is AT&T Tower in Minneapolis. The property is managed by Ryan Companies US, Inc. and owned by ASB Capital Management, Inc. AT&T Tower also is a BOMA 360 Performance Program building.
In the Over One Million Square Feet category, the winner is 500 West Madison in Chicago. The property is managed by Transwestern and owned by KBS Realty Advisors. 500 West Madison also is a BOMA 360 Performance Program building.
During the ceremony, Shanghai Tower also was honored with the inaugural BOMA International Global Innovation Award. This award recognizes properties that represent significant advancements within the commercial real estate industry. Shanghai Tower was celebrated for its iconic place in the world of commercial real estate and its role as a global leader in the industry.
