ESG 101
Learn the impact of ESG on the industry, how it can be measured, and the importance of taking certified actions. ESG 101 is a concise introduction to the world of Environmental Social Governance. This online, self-paced ShortCourse provides information on the role of commercial real estate, the meaning of ESG, and important ESG initiatives. You'll explore the importance of carbon, benchmarking, and frameworks for reporting for corporations, portfolios, and individual assets. A review of human and social capital relating to health and well-being, diversity, equity, and inclusion is provided. Additionally, you will receive an overview of trending regulations, steps to decarbonization, and review a case study in which ESG investment was prioritized.
Decarbonization
Understand the urgency of immediate measures, the latest compliance requirements, and proven strategies for you to implement. This ShortCourse covers the growing concern of the global impact of CO2 emissions, and the importance for building managers and owners to establish targets and relevant carbon-reduction timeframes. The commercial real estate industry falls within Scope 2 of how carbon emissions are expressed, primarily through the emissions of purchased energy consumed. Because of this, the industry is moving from an age where these regulations, once voluntary, are becoming mandatory nationwide. Therefore, as carbon reduction becomes more imperative, tenants must consider carbon in their space acquisition decisions more carefully.

Resiliency
Learn the crucial impact of resilience on building value while examining the high risk of avoidance. Natural disasters' frequency, intensity, and impact have increased significantly within the past fifteen years. This ShortCourse covers the ability of commercial buildings and the businesses they house to prepare for such events adequately and quickly return to full operations - contributing significantly to a community’s ability to bounce back (Ryan Colker, BOMA Magazine 2017). In addition to the community-wide impacts, a building’s post-status after an event can affect the long-term viability of the businesses that occupy those buildings. Implementing a climate risk and resiliency program is vital for maintaining and gaining investor buy-in by providing an overview of the climate impact on the market, asset hazards, and strategies to adapt to climate change.
Health & Well-Being
Examine the value of human capital over tangible assets, the newest health-related protocols, and how to leverage new empowerments. In this ShortCourse, you will examine the role of building professionals in public health. Competencies for measuring health and well-being, as well as healthy building frameworks, are covered. You will examine productivity related to health and well-being and receive information to help you build the business case for prioritizing healthy buildings. Additionally, you will learn to track and measure health and well-being and review a case study involving a building's response to COVID-19.

DEI
Identify the benefits of social and financial parity, a diverse supply chain, and community-based investment strategies. This ShortCourse examines the role of commercial real estate in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). You will learn what DEI is, why it matters, and how successful diagnosis and implementation of DEI initiatives increase not only the profitability of your business but also positively impact the communities surrounding your built environment, further improving your ROI.
