Why Local Committees Matter
1.
Each cycle, there are hundreds of code change proposals submitted to the International Code Council and other SDOs (code and standard developing organizations), and local codes committees help International identify which proposals are of-interest to the CRE industry.
2.
Our local committees help educate members on our priorities and positions, as well as upcoming trends and compliance requirements.
3.
Locals have contact information and rapport with local and state building code officials, which can help you to understand and comply with your building codes.
4.
Building codes are developed at the national level, but they are adopted at the state and local level. Your local committee can tackle building code concerns as they pass through your state or local legislatures.
5.
Local committees provide a forum for members to raise building code issues from the local to the national level to increase awareness and action.
