What is your position/title at your current company? How long have you been in the Emerging Professionals Committee?
I am a Property Manager for Transwestern Property Company in San Antonio Texas. I have been a member of the BOMA International Emerging Professional Committee since September 2021.
What led you to the commercial real estate industry?
Honestly, I fell into it. Through connections I started working part time in the summer during my college years on the brokerage side. A lot of mentors were telling me I should check out Property management. Once I graduated from college, I got a job with Transwestern in Asset services, and it’s been great ever since. Received BOMA San Antonio Property Manager of the Year award last year and recently completed my MBA at Baylor University this past December.
What has your involvement been like at BOMA?
I started out participating in my local San Antonio BOMA chapter in my emerging professional committee. I received a scholarship to attend BOMA International Conference in 2021. That is when I got more involved in BOMA international committees. From there, I applied for the BOMA International Executive Committee, Emerging Professional seat. During this interview process, I was able to secure a regular member seat on the BOMA International Executive Committee and I am currently in my second term for this role. During this time, I am a participating member of the Emerging Professional, Energy Resilience and Sustainability, Building Codes, and Workforce Advocacy Committees for BOMA international.
What advice would you give to emerging professionals in the commercial real estate field?
Be curious and be kind! Actively search of learning opportunities and volunteer for projects/committees. Don’t be nervous to say you don’t know something, it doesn’t make you look dumb. It is an opportunity to ask questions and learn more from the situation and the people around you.
If you were trapped on an island and could only eat one food, what would it be?
If I was trapped on an island and could only eat one thing it would be an Italian sub sandwich with chips. I feel like it has plenty of veg and protein to get me through until someone finds me….hopefully.
