The Commercial Real Estate (CRE) sector, a vital part of our economy, is the single largest contributor to carbon emissions, making the need to decarbonize and move toward a Net Zero future more urgent than ever. Significant efforts have already been made to enhance sustainability across the entire building lifecycle, from concept and design to construction and operation. For long-term success, however, real estate organizations must adopt a holistic approach, aligning decarbonization strategies and sustainability efforts with both real estate performance and broader business objectives.
This paper explores how digitalization is key to achieving these goals, with advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and data analytics now offering CRE building owners and operators the insights they need to drive decarbonization and improve energy efficiency.
